A magnificent example of this very rare date in proof. Note the strong frost on the devices which provides the basis for the contrast between the mirror fields. Excellent surfaces throughout, with just a few light wispy lines from a higher grade. No other signs of contact or marks. Deep flashy mirrors. We also note a very tiny dark speck on a single dentil above the first A in AMERICA. The Philadelphia Mint reports a scant 25 were coined in proof and perhaps a few went unsold or were otherwise lost to numismatics today. The combined NGC and PCGS population reports (including the various normal, Cameo and Ultra/Deep Cameo designations) show a total of six examples this high, with a scant four higher of this issue. A grand total of 14 have been graded by the combined services, so perhaps 15 to 20 exist in all grades. A tremendous opportunity for the advanced numismatist as quality proof gold is seldom available and only offered when great collections are sold.
