1868 1C MS65 Red NGC. Writing in 1992, Richard Snow states that "many examples [of the 1868 Cent] are weak around the rim and legend areas, shield." He also states that this date is "difficult to find full red." Not only is the present Gem fully lustrous, but the strike is appreciably bold over all features save for the feathers tips on the obverse. Rich orange-red color dominates the outward appearance--a feature that allows full appreciation of the uncommonly distraction-free surfaces. A small nick at the back of Liberty's cheek and a few well scattered reverse carbon flecks are noted for accuracy. Population: 13 in 65 Red, there are just three finer (10/02).From the Joseph P.
