1868 1C Coronet Cent, Judd-608, Pollock-673, R.4, PR64 PCGS. This piece is misidentified by PCGS as Judd-605. It is Pollock's high date variety with the digit 1 closer to the bust than the border. On the obverse, Liberty is wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY. Around, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and below, the date. The reverse has a large Roman numeral I enclosed within a wreath of wheat, corn, tobacco, and cotton. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Unlike other pattern issues of the period, these pieces are actual patterns struck to illustrate a coinage proposal for low denomination nickel-based coins. Apparently quite a number of these were produced in sets consisting of one, three, and five cent pieces. According to Adams and Woodin, and least 100 sets of these pieces were produced, and such a figure is consistent with their availability today. This pleasing light gray example has fully mirrored fields with faint cameo contrast. The central obverse and reverse designs exhibit slight weakness.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
