1868 10C MS65 ICG. After the Civil War, production of subsidiary coinage began to increase once again, and in 1868 464,000 business strikes Dimes were produced in the Philadelphia Mint. However, because of the heavy demands of coinage in the channels of commerce, this is a very difficult coin to locate in the finer Mint State grades. Only a half dozen or so pieces are believed known in Gem condition. This is a splendid coin that is sharply struck throughout. The surfaces are uncommonly lustrous with a confined glimmer of reflectivity in the fields, created by striating the die prior to striking the coin. Brilliant overall and problem-free, this is a coin for a serious Dime specialist. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
