1868 10C Braided Hair Ten Cents, Judd-648, Pollock-721, High R.6, PR66 Brown NGC. Liberty faces left with braided hair, copying the earlier large cent design, the date below. The reverse bears the denomination, TEN CENTS, within a laurel wreath, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. Struck in copper with a plain edge. Examples of this pattern design are also known struck in nickel. Rarity ratings for pattern issues are clearly not an exact science. Andrew Pollock considered both of these pieces to be equal with a Rarity-6 rating and USPatterns.com suggests that about two dozen of each are known. David Bowers considers the copper piece to be rarer, rating it High R.6 while the nickel composition pattern is thought to be Low R.6. This example is a wonderful Gem with attractive faded orange color and accents of lilac and pale blue. All design elements are bold and the surfaces are smooth and reflective.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
