1868 $10 PR62 Cameo PCGS. A significant rarity fr
1868<$10> PR62 Cameo PCGS. A significant rarity from the 1860s, the 1868 is comparable in scarcity to the 1867. Only 25 proofs were struck with some of those most likely melted as unsold. To date, only 11 pieces have been certified by both services, combined including cameos and non-cameos. Some of these are likely resubmissions. Die scratches are noted on Liberty's neck, under the eagle's neck, and under the first S of STATES on the reverse. Some surface roughness is also noted on the reverse between the eagle's head and STATES, this probably being caused by insufficient die polish. This specimen can also be identified by a small planchet flake near Liberty's throat. Lightly hairlined, probably from being wiped at one time, the bright golden surfaces display some moderate cameo contrast, especially on the reverse. Certainly a worthwhile example of this exceedingly rare proof gold issue. Population: 1 in 62 Cameo, 1 finer (5/05).
