<B>1868 $10 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> This remarkable near-Mint example is tied for the finest that PCGS has ever certified. The mintage of 10,630 was the highest recorded production of eagles at Philadelphia during the period from 1863 through 1877, yet examples are not easy to locate. Most collectors who were active at the time preferred proof coins, and the business strike pieces of the time quietly entered circulation. Highly lustrous surfaces exhibit reflective fields with lovely honey-gold color that is accented by wisps of green and pink toning. This piece is sharply struck and minimally abraded.
