1867-S 10C MS61 PCGS. Fortin-101. Any 1867-S Seated di
1867-S<10C> MS61 PCGS. Fortin-101. Any 1867-S Seated dime is scarce in the lower circulated grades, elusive in XF or AU, and rare in Mint State. This is the rarer of the two varieties that Gerry Fortin lists on www.seateddimevarieties.com. While the diagnostic die lump on the center upright of the M in DIME is clear, the die line to the left on the wreath is invisible due to strike difficulties. Those include a somewhat weak strike on much of the periphery, including Liberty's head, the bowknot, the edges of the rock, and the left side of the wreath, where a curious die defect, appearing to be a die line, passes through mushy detail. The right side of the wreath is well struck, as are the centers on each side. A die lump is seen on Liberty's (facing) calf. There is no trace of wear, and the lustrous surfaces have a light patina of heather, gold, and lilac. An interesting and rare Mint State coin for the Seated dime specialists. Certified in an early green-label holder. Population: 1 in 61, 9 finer (7/06).
