historic handwritten copy, a rare and important document consisting of 20 pages, the cover reading Treaty between The United States of America and the Cheyenne and Arapahoe Tribes of Indians concluded October 28 1867 Ratification advised July 25 1868 proclaimed August 19 1868, the 19th page listing 14 of the Cheyenne leaders and 8 of the Arapahoes. The treaty was acquired from Sampson Walker in 1970, a Cheyenne Indian tribe member, son of Herbert Walker at Longdale OK. Notarized letter from Walker states the document was handed down to him through their family, descendants of one of the signers of the treaty to be White Rabbit. From Sampson Walker the document transferred to Allen and Betty Schnieder by notarized letter in 1970, which further states the treaty was handed down to Sampson through his father Herbert Walker, Cheyenne Chief and descendant of the signer White Rabbit, fourth listed on the part of the Arapahoes. Up to this point the document was stored in a trunk in original cloth cover. In 2007, the document was sent to Joel Oppenheimer firm for conservation as listed on enclosed invoice which included: surface clean, backed withMulberry tissue, removal of tape and gum residue, deacidify and thymolizing. In June 2008 the document was consigned to a major auction gallery estimated at $60,000-80,000, reserved at $50,000. A 2014 letter by Betty Schnieder transfers ownership to J. NIxon, eventually in possession of Dillman Ash, Medicine Lodge KS. Also included with document is Sampson Walker's Tribal membershipquestionnaire, photo of Walker and the treaty at time of 1970 purchase, full set of copies of treaty, typed copy of 1883 notarized page, various contemprary notes and information with original cloth cover. This is a well documented collection with undeniable provenance being sold unreserved. From Dillman Ash collection.
