1867-Dated, Hand-Colored George Washington Lithograph, “FIRST IN PEACE”, Engraved by John McRae, Choice Extremely Fine.
1867 Hand-Colored Lithograph known as being titled “FIRST IN PEACE”, Engraved by John McRae, After a painting by Henry Brueckner. The Engraving measuring 23.5” x 37” being on its full heavy wove print sheet measuring to about 28” x 41”. This example appears to be an early Trial Proof strike off the plate. The title “FIRST IN PEACE” and other text below at bottom is not present, whereas the small text identification line text located immediately below the printed image is fully intact and present. The magnificent Color Image shows the arrival of General George Washington by boat at the Battery in New York City on April 23, 1789, just prior to his Inauguration as the first President of the United States on April 30th. The sheet is hinged at top to heavy mat stock for support in display. A lovely historical Engraving that will look wonderful when framed.
