1867<G$1> MS64 PCGS. Unbacked Federal paper money drove bullion coins from circulation in 1867, which led to a low production of 5,200 pieces for the 1867 gold dollar. This lovely prooflike and well struck near-Gem has hints of cherry toning. The dies are dramatically clashed, with most letters in LIBERTY legible beneath the date, although in inverted and reversed form. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 9 in 64, 9 finer (9/06).
From The Tide Collection.
