1867 Alexander Cartwright Signed Doc. PSA/DNA
1867 Alexander Cartwright Handwritten Signed Land Purchase Document. Considered by many to be the father of modern baseball, it was Cartwright who organized the sport's first official game, played June 19, 1846 at Elysian Field in Hoboken, New Jersey. Cartwright was the umpire, and fined one player six cents for cursing. He headed west for the California gold streams in 1849 but became sickened with dysentery and left California for Hawaii, where he lived out the rest of his days. Here we find a legal document penned entirely in Cartwright's hand at "Honolulu, June 10, 1867" that finalizes the sale of a property to the Hall of Fame pioneer. He references himself in the text, supplying a magnificent "Alex J. Cartwright" autograph. All ink remains in terrific 10/10 condition, and the lined page shows some light wear and toning along the upper edge, neither of which affects the all-important signature. No serious baseball autograph should fail to include a signature from this seminal figure. LOA from PSA/DNA.
