<B>1867 5C Rays MS66 PCGS.</B></I> Just over 2 million Shield nickels were minted in the second year of production before the Rays design was abandoned in favor of the simpler and less stressful (for the dies) No Rays type. This Premium Gem is one of the nicer examples we have seen or offered recently. Both sides exhibit shimmering, satiny luster beneath a uniform coating of light golden patina. The strike is incredibly sharp and even, although there are a few peripheral die cracks on the right side of the obverse--an early indication of problems to come.
