<B>1867 5C No Rays MS65 NGC.</B></I> During its early years, the Shield nickel was plagued with production problems, due at least partly to the hardness of the metal. This can be illustrated on the current example by reference to the spindly die cracks that are noticeable on the obverse. Lustrous and well preserved, this is still an attractive and conditionally scarce Gem example.
