1867 5C Indian Head Five Cents, Judd-561, Pollock-622,
1867 5C Indian Head Five Cents, Judd-561, Pollock-622, R.5, PR64 NGC. A Liberty head on the obverse faces left with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around and the date below. A headdress consists of four feathers and four stars, and a ribbon is inscribed UNION & LIBERTY. Below the bust is LONGACRE F. The reverse has an ornate shield superimposed with a large V. Above, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Struck in aluminum with a plain edge. Contemporary information indicates that 100 examples of this pattern variety may have been minted, although others have reported that just 25 were struck. Obviously, with a rarity rating of R.5, the reports of 25 pieces struck are clearly not correct. This example is a lovely piece with deeply mirrored fields and considerable contrast. Both sides have attractive light gray color as usual for pieces made of aluminum.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
