1867 5C Five Cents, Judd-564, Pollock-625, High
1867 5C Five Cents, Judd-564, Pollock-625, High R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. A bust of Liberty faces left, and wears a headdress with four feathers and four stars. A ribbon in her hair bears the inscription UNION & LIBERTY, which presumably would not have been a popular design element in the South. "LONGACRE F." resides below the bust; a signature nearly as prominent as that of Gobrecht's below his Silver Dollar. The reverse has a prominent V within a large shield. Three tiny center dots are noted on each side. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. While plain edge aluminum strikings (Judd-561) are relatively available, reeded edge copper pieces are very rare. This attractive Gem is dominated by rose and ruby-red colors, although the reverse devices have olive patina. The surfaces are nearly pristine, although a small and curly lintmark (as made) below Liberty's eye will suffice as a pedigree marker. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
