1867<50C> PR66 Cameo PCGS. Breen-4936, Normal Drapery. WB-101, Normal Date. This is the "First variety" described in Breen's proof Encyclopedia. The drapery is full and the date is high, with most of the stars showing extra outlines. The left serif of the 1 is about over the left edge of a dentil. On the reverse, the arrowheads and RI are apart. Both sides of this spectacular piece boast pretty pink-champagne surfaces, with unimpeded luster and considerable contrast between the devices and the deeply mirrored fields. This coin was obviously produced with great care and attention to detail by Mint craftsmen of 140 years ago, as it is essentially free of distractions above the microscopic level. The population data attest to its unimprovability: PCGS has graded only three coins in PR66 Cameo, with none finer within any designation (6/06).
From The Stephen Stokely #1 PCGS Registry Set of Proof Seated Half Dollars.
