1867 50C Half Dollar, Judd-591, Pollock-655, High R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. The obverse and reverse are the regular dies for the 1867 half dollar. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. About a half a dozen pieces are known. Fully detailed in all areas, the surfaces are mostly brown with bits of fiery-red original mint luster surrounding the devices and peripheries on each side. These are often called "die trials" to convey the thought that they are pattern pieces used to test a new set of coinage dies before the precious metal production began. In reality, they were actually coined to include in special sets sold to contemporary collectors.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
