1867[$2 1/2] PR67 Deep Cameo PCGS.
1867<$2 1/2> PR67 Deep Cameo PCGS. Ex: HW Bass Jr. A fully struck Superb Gem of this very rare and highly desirable proof issue. The contrast between the luminous pale gold devices and the deeply mirrored fields is virtually unimprovable, and the surfaces are completely devoid of post-striking imperfections. Blushes of honey and sky-blue color grace the centers, and further increase the eye appeal. Faint mint-made die lines below the IB in LIBERTY and from Liberty's earlobe provide diagnostics for the proof obverse die.

A scant 50 proofs were minted. The last prior appearance of the issue in a Heritage auction was a PR64 in our 1996 Atlanta ANA Signature Sale, eight years ago. When the present coin appeared in the Bass III sale, the proof 1867 was named "an extreme rarity with only 15 or so known today." The single finest representative of the issue certified by PCGS, with the runner-up certified as PR66 without even a Cameo designation. The highest graded NGC example is also PR66, which makes the current piece the single finest certified by either of the two major grading services. Here is a Superb Gem that has it all: absolute rarity, conditional rarity, and exceptional eye appeal.
Ex: Quality Sales, 9/73, lot 1060; Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection, Part III (Bowers and Merena, 5/00), lot 217, which realized $36,800.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
