1867 1C PR64 Red PCGS. The dies used to strike 1867 proof Cents show several interesting anomalies, some of which are sometimes mistaken for problems on the coin. On the obverse, there is always a die line on the neck, which to the uninitiated eye may look like a scratch. The reverse die is left over from 1865 and 1866. In 1867 it acquired numerous die polishing marks which may look like hairlines. Of course, none of these die flaws are grade-limiting and are present on all examples seen to date. This golden-red example has bright, highly reflective proof mirrors in the fields. Close examination with a loupe reveals a few tiny contact marks, but this coin is really close to a full Gem grade.
