1867 10C PR66 NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. Greer-101. It is truly the sign of a great sale when we can offer not only an 1867 Half Dime, but also an 1867 Dime. Like its similarly dated Half Dime counterpart, the 1867 Seated Dime is a low mintage issue. In fact, the business strike delivery of 6,000 coins is the lowest in this long-lived series. Proofs were produced to the extent of 625 coins, and, while not particularly rare in lower grades, they are virtually nonexistent above the PR65 level. A definite Condition Census example, this premium quality Gem is layered in rich antique-copper, steel-gray, and cobalt-blue toning that fades to virtual brilliance in the center of the reverse. The underlying colors are more vibrant with crimson-gold, orange, and electric-blue shades all in evidence. The strike is essentially complete throughout, and we cannot find a single distracting blemish. A tiny planchet void (as produced) in the left obverse field at Liberty's hand is the only worthwhile pedigree marker, and repunching on the 1, 8, and 7 in the date is diagnostic of the Greer-101 die marriage. Both major grading services combined have seen just four coins at the PR66 grade level, and none finer (7/02).From the Philip Kaufman Collection.
