1867$1 PR67 Cameo NGC. Only 46,900 business strikes were minted of the 1867 Seated dollar. It is rarely encountered in circulated and Uncirculated grades, and in the opinion of John McCloskey it may well be the rarest P-mint in the With Motto series (in circulated condition). However, as a date the 1867 does not have the appearance of being a scarce issue because proofs are available often enough to satisfy date collectors. Like the 1865 above, this coin is arguably the finest proof striking known of this date. Three PR67 Cameo examples have been certified by NGC (2/05), but this is the only one with a star designation, and of course, none are finer. When viewing this coin it is easy to take the technical merits of this coin for granted as one is so taken with the color scheme on each side. The mirrored fields are brightly reflective and free from any mentionable defects, as one would surmise from the grade. The devices are nicely frosted against the fields, and each side is spectacularly toned. The centers are brilliant, but soon give way to rich concentric rings of iridescence around the margins. A must-see piece for the serious Seated dollar collector.
