1866-S $5 No Motto AU53 PCGS. A richly detailed example that has golden-brown color and abundant bright peripheral luster. The fields are free from distraction, while the cheek and neck of Liberty have a minor contact mark. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was added to the $5, $10, and $20 gold coins in 1866. The remote status of the San Francisco Mint resulted in scant production of No Motto coins, early in the year. Only 9,000 pieces were struck of this issue, the last in the series without a motto. These circulated heavily, and VF survivors are the norm. This pleasing coin may well rank within the Condition Census. Population: 2 in 53, 3 finer (9/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
