1866-S $20 No Motto XF40 ANACS. Struck prior to the arrival of the new Type Two dies from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1866-S No Motto is, after the 1861-S Paquet, the rarest Type One Double Eagle from the California branch mint. Only 141,000 pieces were produced, all of which appear to have entered circulation because there is not a single Mint State coin known to either of the two major grading services (7/02). This pleasing XF representative exhibits remnants of mint luster in select peripheral areas. Rich reddish-gold and olive-gold colors blend over evenly worn, yet still generally bold features. The scattered abrasions (most of which are on the obverse) include a few scrapes in the field before Liberty's chin. An important bidding opportunity for the Double Eagle date collector. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
