1866 G$1 PR66 Cameo NGC. This issue is extremely scarc
1866 G$1 PR66 Cameo NGC. This issue is extremely scarce, given the original proof mintage of only 30 coins, supplemented by 7,130 business strikes. The Breen proof Encyclopedia says of this issue, "Date from the half dime logotype, heavy, nearer to ribbon bows than to DOLLAR, and level. ... Heavy low date, wreath tops joined. Almost R-7." As Breen was using the Sheldon scale, that meant a surviving population of not much more than 4 to 12 examples. In fact, the NGC Census Report lists 12 proof examples, all but one of them designated Cameo, while the PCGS data list 20 examples. This coin--which in any case is among the highest graded examples at either service--does show a heavy date and joined wreath tips. The interiors of the O and A in DOLLAR are still frosty. The frosted devices contrast well with the deeply mirrored fields. A lintmark is noted in the left obverse field. Census: 3 in 66, 0 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
