<B>1866<5C> Rays MS66 PCGS.</B></I> A popular issue as the less-expensive issue of the With Rays subtype, here represented by a Premium Gem specimen that is one of the finest graded at either service. While it is doubtful that business strikes of this first-year issue ever appear "fully struck," this piece shows a bold strike that includes venation in the leaves on both sides and no apparent weakness on the shield lines or the star centers. Curious die centering lines are seen behind the devices on each side. The die centering lines are usually polished out, but were not on this die. These mint-produced lines neither affect the numeric grade nor detract from the appearance of this lustrous and well-struck piece, a rare coin as such. Population: 23 in 66, 0 finer (9/06).
