<B>1866 $5 AU53 PCGS.</B></I> Since gold coins did not circulate except on the West Coast in 1866, it is understandable that only 6,700 pieces were struck. These were largely ignored by collectors until well into the 20th century, and as a result, PCGS has certified just one piece as Mint State. Lustrous for the grade, and clean save for a thin mark above the final star.
