1866-1870 Canada General Service Medals
Canadian General Service Award medals were granted to all officers who were employed actively in repelling the Fenian Raids on the Canadian frontier in 1866 and 1870 or who engaged in the Red River Expedition of 1870. Not issued until 1899 and awarded only if applied for. The 2 small pieces include a 12mm diameter silver and a large 36mm diameter silver circular medal mounted on plain straight swivelling suspenders attached with a double-toe claw. Obverses, veiled diademed bust of Queen Victoria and Legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX. Reverse depicts the old Canadian ensign within a wreath of maple with 'CANADA' above. Bars issued: Fenian Raid 1866 and Fenian Raid 1870. Hung on a 15mm and 30mm ribbon respectively consisting of 3 equal stripes; red, white and red. The small 1866 medal is unamed. Larger 1870 medal is unevenly hand stamped around the rim named to Pte. T. St.Pierre Kamouraska Prov.Bn. Choice original condition with larger ribbon having pinhole markings.
