<B>1866 $10 MS60 NGC.</B></I> After the Reverend M.R. Wilkinson's suggestion that mention of the Deity be added to the nation's coinage, Congress agreed and mandated that beginning in 1866 such a motto should be placed on coins. A mere 3,750 ten dollar gold pieces were struck in 1866, and survivors are rare in the absolute as well as the conditional sense. This is the only MS60 graded and two MS61 pieces have been certified (both by NGC). The devices are sharply defined throughout and the fields show a significant amount of the semi-prooflikeness that was undoubtedly present on all pieces from such a low mintage. Numerous small abrasions are scattered over each side and account for the grade.
