1866 $1 Seated Liberty Dollar, Judd-541, Pollock-606, Low R.6, PR63 Brown NGC. The regular issue design for the 1866 Motto Seated Liberty silver dollar. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Andrew Pollock reported the existence of thin and thick planchet pieces, with about 20 grains difference between the two varieties. This is quite a small weight difference in relation to the size of these coins, and is seemingly insignificant. Close to 30 examples of this variety are known, suggesting that they may have been produced for sale to collectors rather than true trial purposes. Lightly mirrored surfaces exhibit brassy gold color with hints of steel and iridescent toning. While these patterns were struck in copper, this piece looks quite similar to brass. Perhaps the new owner will want to have it tested for metallic content.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
