1865-S $20 MS65 NGC. Ex: Brother Jonathan. Prior to the S.S. Brother Jonathan sale, in 1999, the 1865-S double eagle was rare in high grades. The condition-conscious Harry W. Bass, Jr. was only able to find an XF example for his collection. The Brother Jonathan and the S.S. Republic, however, each contained hundreds of pieces, many of them in Mint State. According to Garrett and Guth (2006): "Today the 1865-S double eagle is available in grades unheard of several years ago. These coins are tangible links to these fascinating treasures and an important time in American history." The current offering is a lustrous Gem representative with amazingly smooth, matte-like surfaces. Except for a few of the obverse stars, the design elements are boldly impressed, and distracting marks or blemishes are nonexistent.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
