1865 50C PR66 Cameo NGC.
1865 50C PR66 Cameo NGC.<p>The Philadelphia Mint produced 511,400 business strike and 500 proof Seated Half Dollars in 1865. It is likely that many of the specimen strikings were melted as unsold at the end of this, the final year of the Civil War. What we do know for certain from studying NGC and PCGS population data is that the proof 1865 is anything but common as a Gem. Furthermore, this coin is tied with one other PR66 example as the finest of only eight proof 1865 Halves that NGC has designated with a Cameo finish (4/02). This is one of the most attractive 1865 Seated Half Dollars that this cataloger has seen, and it is the finest proof representative that we have offered since 1996. The stunning surfaces combine glassy fields and frosty devices to present a fully cameoed sheen. There is a dusting of golden-orange patina over both sides that livens to cobalt-blue accents over select areas around the rims. Fully struck with no outwardly distracting blemishes and eye appeal to spare. From the Indiana Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
