1865 $3 AU55 NGC. According to Paul F. Taglione (1986), the 1865 is the rarest P-mint Three Dollar gold piece in Mint State. About Uncirculated survivors are a little less rare, but they can be equally as difficult to locate in today's market. This minimally worn survivor retains ample evidence of a prooflike finish. Pleasingly original, the mostly orange-gold surfaces reveal rich reddish-copper highlights around the peripheries. The overall definition is sharp, this despite a little light rub across the highpoints, and the number of abrasions is consistent with a gold coin at the Choice AU level. It has been nearly three years since we offered a similarly graded 1865 Three. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
