1865 25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-423, Pollock-495, Low R.7, PR67 Deep Cameo NGC. It is really a shame that Anthony Paquet didn't do more work for the Mint, for his artistry is superb. He was fond of delicate lettering and design elements that gave a distinctive look to our coinage. The obverse design is the standard Liberty Seated die that was already in production, while the reverse design by Paquet was used on various quarter dollar patterns of 1858, 1859, and 1864 in addition to these 1865-dated issues. This pattern variety appears to be a solid Rarity-7 issue, and this Superb Gem with its high degree of cameo contrast is almost certainly one of the finest known examples. It is fully brilliant with deeply mirrored fields and highly lustrous devices. There do not appear to be any blemishes to use for pedigree purposes. Lot:9837
