<B>1865 $20 MS62 NGC.</B></I> Ex: <I>S.S. Republic. </B></I>Prior to the recovery of the S.S. Republic shipwreck, the 1865 was very rare in Mint State, although AU examples were collectible. In 2005, a couple hundred 1865 twenties appeared on the coin market with S.S. Republic pedigrees. Most were Uncirculated, but only a single piece exceeded MS65. Demand increased to meet the new supply, and the majority of those lustrous 1865 double eagles now reside in collector hands. The present coin has a refreshingly unabraded reverse. The obverse has a few luster grazes, but none are individually worthy of discussion. Well struck and pleasing for the grade.
