<B>1865<$20> AU58 NGC.</B></I> Before examples were recovered from the <I>S.S. Republic</B></I> treasure, this piece would have ranked among the finest pieces that have survived over the years. Of course, the treasure yielded over 300 AU and Mint State coins, so now this issue is one of the most common Type One double eagles. This specimen has nearly full luster and lightly abraded but attractive surfaces. It has bright yellow-gold color with subtle traces of pink toning.
