<B>1865 1C PR64 Red PCGS.</B></I> Richard Snow (2006) says of the 1865 proof cent: "This is one of the tougher dates in the early Indian Head series. ... It usually is found with streaky red-brown colors. Full red examples are very hard to locate, especially without spots and problems. Cameos are very rare." The near-Gem in this lot displays gorgeous reddish-gold color imbued with wisps of light green. Excellent definition on the design elements has resulted from a solid strike, and strong contrast is noted when the piece is tilted beneath a light source. Close scrutiny reveals no unsightly spots, stains, or significant contact marks.
