1864 Lincoln Ferrotype Set Into Five-Point Star Rare 1864 Lincoln Ferrotype Set Into Five-Pointed St
Rare 1864 Lincoln Ferrotype Set Into Five-Pointed Star. The five-pointed star is one of the most sought-after frames for ferrotypes of this election. Since most ferro badges use one of just a few stock photo images of a given candidate, it is the frame that usually establishes the desirability and value of a given variety. In our November, 2004 auction (#609 Lot 27255), Heritage sold the McClellan mate for $2990 despite some minor condition problems, and in any pairing from this election, the Lincoln version is always more valuable than the McClellan. As the photo obviously shows, this Lincoln example has major condition problems: two large flakes and surface unevenness. But the Lincoln image, and "Lincoln 1864" above his head are almost entirely complete and sharp. Brass clip on back for attachment may not be original. Still, a display-worthy example of a top Lincoln ferro variety.
