1864 50C MS67 NGC. A heavily melted Civil War era issue from a somewhat reduced mintage of 379,100 business strikes. Only the inclusion of a small group of cleaned uncirculated pieces from a Guatemala hoard boosts the quantity of Mint State survivors beyond a few dozen coins. The Superb example offered here is intricately detailed and, unlike the few high grade pieces we have sold in the past few years, displays a satiny rather than semi-reflective texture to the fields. Light orange patina fades to near brilliance in the centers. Easily one of the finest 1864 Seated Halves in existence. Population: 3 in 67, 0 finer (11/02).
