1864 3C Three Cent Silver, Judd-377, Pollock-445, R.8, PR64 PCGS. Regular die trials issue of the Three Cent Silver, but struck in nickel with a plain edge. This is an extremely rare pattern with only 2-3 pieces believed known. This piece was formerly offered as part of a four-piece pattern set of Three Cent Silver Pieces in Auction '85. The fields are bright and deeply reflective and the devices are fully struck. The coin appears to have been struck on an improperly prepared planchet, however, as there is slight porosity on each side. Mostly brilliant with a swirl of smoky golden patina on both obverse and reverse.Ex: Auction '85 (Superior's session, 8/85), lot 549.
