1864 $3 AU53 PCGS. The 1864 three dollar gold is popular as one of the five Civil War issues in the series. The mintage for the 1864--2,680 pieces--is second-lowest behind the 1865, of which only 1,140 coins were made, and both years see steady collector demand. Despite the low mintages, however, collectors of the time appear to have saved significant numbers of coins. Numerous scrapes are seen in the fields before the head of Liberty, as well as on the neck and cheek, along with the die striations at the periphery that are usually seen on this issue. The lustrous surfaces are lemon-gold, and the reverse die is rotated about 20 degrees clockwise. Population: 18 in 53, 58 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
