1864 2C Two Cents, Judd-366, Pollock-433, High
1864 2C Two Cents, Judd-366, Pollock-433, High R.7, PR62 Brown PCGS. Similar to the proof Small Motto Two Cent Piece, but CENTS is widely curved. Within the motto, WE is die doubled. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Deep ruby-red, apple-green, and orange colors grace this lightly abraded transitional pattern. This lot is accompanied by a Walter Breen letter, dated Oct. 20, 1990, which reads, in part, "It is an 1864 Small Motto Two Cents Proof with the pattern reverse (CENTS much curved). Copper (or bronze?), 6.00 gms. = 92.6 grains. Judd 366 or 367. The weight reflects uncertainty of metallic content: 96 grains is weight standard for bronze (95% copper, 5% tin + zinc); other varieties of 2c patterns in copper have weight about 90 grains each. This is a fabulous rarity, one of perhaps 5 known." Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
