1864 2C Shield Two Cents, Judd-371, Pollock-440, Low R.6, PR64 PCGS. The regular issue designs for the 1864 Large Motto two cent piece. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. This impressive near-Gem proof is housed in a green-label PCGS holder. Reflective surfaces exhibit light tan color, the reverse less deeply mirrored and slightly darker in tone. Both sides have a few widely scattered spots that keep this piece from a higher grade. In addition to this piece, other examples from the same dies were coined in aluminum, and additional pieces were struck in nickel. Bowers rates this variety Low R.6, Pollock calls it R.6, and USpatterns.com suggest that it is High R.6, and they state that just over a dozen are known. A reasonable compromise might be an R.6. rating, with the suggestion that 15 to 20 pieces are known.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
