1864 $20 MS61 PCGS. The symbolic thirteen stars on each side of the double eagle, engraved by Longacre in accordance with numismatic tradition in the United States, remained even during the Civil War, which saw four of the states represented by those stars secede from the Union. On this highly lustrous lemon-gold double eagle, the central devices have a touch of softness, but the peripheral details are strong, and no part of the design displays any wear. Three reeding marks and a moderate abrasion affect the cheek and chin, but the obverse fields have only light, well-distributed abrasions, and the reverse is cleaner than the other side, as is often the case. Appealing for the grade. Population: 14 in 61, 9 finer (12/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
