1864[$2 1/2] PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS.
1864<$2 1/2> PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. Since the beginning of the new millennium we have sold three proof 1864 Quarter Eagles, this being the fourth to cross the auction block, and it appears that all four offerings are for the identical coin. One could look at this situation two ways. (1) This specimen has really jumped around over the past few years and (2) 1864 Proof Quarter Eagles must be genuinely elusive If only a single specimen has traded in nearly five years. Of course, both of these observations are correct, but the second certainly trumps the first. A mere 50 proofs were reportedly struck this year and, judging from the number of pieces believed to be extant (fewer than 20 coins), it is likely that even a smaller quantity was actually distributed, and a fair number of those struck were melted as unsold at year's end. This is a very deeply mirrored example that has bright, frosted devices on each side. Strong magnification is required to locate any surface flaws, the most obvious ones being a tiny planchet flake out of the field between stars 1 and 2, and an inconspicuous scratch below the dot to the left of 2 1/2 D on the lower reverse. Population: 1 in 64 Deep Cameo, 2 finer (7/04).

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
