1864<1C> One Cent, Judd-356A, Pollock-427, Low R.6, MS64 Brown NGC. Struck in copper with a plain edge. Produced from the regular dies of the year, without Longacre's initial, on thick planchets of copper or bronze. Andrew Pollock noted that these were "struck on thick planchets resembling copper-nickel Indian cents in size." This example has sepia color with subdued, satiny surfaces. Just a trace of bright orange luster above the letters AMER show that this is clearly a thick planchet copper pattern, rather than a darkly toned copper-nickel example.
