1864 1C Indian Cent, Judd-353, Pollock-425, Low R.6, PR65 PCGS. The regular issue designs for the 1864 Indian cent without L. Struck in an alloy of copper and aluminum with a plain edge. The fields on both sides have moderate reflectivity, but they are not deeply mirrored as on most proof coins. Pale golden-tan surfaces exhibit hints of olive color. These pieces were produced in several different mixtures of copper and aluminum, reportedly 93% copper and 7% aluminum for the Judd-353 variety. Other alloys included 95% copper and 5% aluminum, 90% copper and 10% aluminum, and 90% copper and 10% tin. It is extremely difficult to identify these various compositions by eye alone, with the only true test being metallurgical analysis. With a couple dozen known pieces, this Judd-353 variety is the most plentiful of four similar appearing pattern issues.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
