1864 1C Copper-Nickel PR66 PCGS. The final issue in the proof copper-nickel Cent series of 1860-1864, the 1864 was produced to the extent of approximately 370 pieces. Not all of these coins were distributed during the hectic days of the Civil War. Writing in 1992, Rick Snow states that probably no more than 100 coins are extant in all grades. Among the finest certified survivors, this gorgeous Gem is awash in bright pinkish-tan color that provides full appreciation of the glistening reflectivity in the fields. Solidly graded at the PR66 level, and possessed of awe-inspiring eye appeal. Population: 11 in 66, there are only two finer (10/02).From the Joseph P. Gorrell Collection.
