<B>1864 1C Copper Nickel PR64 Cameo PCGS.</B></I> By 1864 shortages of nickel mandated a change from the "nickel cents" of 1859-1864 to a bronze composition--95% copper and 5% tin, modeled after French bronze coinage. Nearly 14 million copper-nickel cents were struck in 1864 before the changeover to bronze, with 39 million more pieces added to the total.
