1864 1C Copper-Nickel MS66 PCGS. The final copper-nickel Cent in U.S. coinage history, the 1864 is also a scarce issue for the type. The present Gem is nearly unsurpassable at PCGS, and there are no NGC coins certified finer than MS66. The razor sharp strike is free of criticism, and the smooth, nearly pristine surfaces are expectantly well preserved for the assigned grade. Warm light brown coloration yields to modest brightness in the fields as the coin dips into the light. NGC and PCGS combined report only 15 coins at the MS66 level of preservation, with a lone MS67 PCGS specimen finer (10/02).Ex: Dr. Alan Epstein Collection. From the Joseph P. Gorrell Collection.
